A Meta-Analysis of Prognostic Value of Cav-1 Expression in Gastric Cancers
نویسندگان
چکیده
Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies and remains the second leading cause of cancer related mortality worldwide (Li et al., 2012). Despite recent advances in medical treatment and surgical techniques, the five-year survival rate for gastric cancer patients unfortunately remains poor. Biological prognostic markers in early stages of gastric cancer would have great clinical value. Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) is mainly expressed by adipocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial and smooth muscle cells (Scherer et al., 1997). It is involved in signal transduction and transmembrane transport processes (Anderson et al., 1992). In cancers, ambivalent roles of Cav-1 in the pathogenesis have been reported. Cav-1 down-regulation has been found in tumors such as lung, ovarian, mammary carcinomas and mesenchymal sarcomas (Wiechen et al., 2001), whereas its over-expression has been reported in cancers of the prostate, esophagus, bladder and kidney (Williams and Lisanti, 2005; Goetz et al., 2008). Cav1 amplification is frequently down-regulated in gastric cancer and is associated with better prognosis (He et al., 2012), but recently studies show that high Cav-1 levels predict poor outcome in gastric cancer (Nam et al., 2013).

Role of Frizzled receptor expression on patients’ survival with gastrointestinal cancers: A systematic review with meta-analysis
Background: Frizzled receptors (FZD) play a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of a wide array of cancers. Dysregulated expression of FZD receptors is correlated with higher metastasis and invasive potential, as well as short survival in many malignancies. In this meta-analysis, we aimed to verify the prognostic value of FZD receptor expression on patients’ survival with different t...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Prognostic Value and TRIP13 gene Expression in Gastric Cancer
Introduction: Gastric cancer is a major public health issue worldwide. The factors that initiate cancer are not well understood, however aberrant expression of genes is associated with this cancer. TRIP13 plays pivotal roles in meiotic recombination, DNA repair, and cell cycle progression. An increasing body of evidence suggests that TRIP13 may possess functions other than meiosis and mitosis, ...
متن کاملCytokeratin7 expression in gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma: Correlation with prognostic factors
Background: Gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma are the second and the fifth most common cancers in Iran, respectively. Expression of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) is established in most malignancies including gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma. Demonstration of Ck7 could be related to prognostic factors and help to the better management of the patients. The objective of our study was to evalu...
متن کاملCaveolin-1 Expression Level in Cancer Associated Fibroblasts Predicts Outcome in Gastric Cancer
AIMS Altered expression of epithelial or stromal caveolin-1 (Cav-1) is observed in various types of human cancers. However, the clinical significance of Cav-1 expression in gastric cancer (GC) remains largely unknown. The present study aims to explore the clinicopathological significance and prognostic value of both tumor cells and cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) Cav-1 in GC. METHODS AND...
متن کاملPrognostic Value of Metastatic Tumoral Caveolin-1 Expression in Patients with Resected Gastric Cancer
OBJECTIVE Caveolin-1 (Cav-1), as the main component of caveolae, has complex roles in tumourigenesis in human malignancies. We investigated Cav-1 in primary and metastatic tumor cells of gastric cancer (GC) and its association with clinical outcomes. METHODS We retrieved 145 cases of GC who had undergone curative gastrectomy. The expression levels of Cav-1 was evaluated by immunohistochemistr...
